Gerry Spinosa’s first two Chardonnays have each won Gold

2010 Exultet “The Blessed” Chardonnay, VQA Prince Edward County ($35.00) in the south-eastern corner of the County on a complex collection of sandy, silty, calciferous clay soils, this relative newbie is gaining a lot of attention.  Gerry Spinosa’s first two Chardonnays have each won Gold at the Ontario Wine Awards.  No wonder.  It’s brilliant gold in colour with a nose and taste that charms and intrigues all at once.  Smoky, caramel notes combine with plump, sweet fruits to evolve into a bouquet full of licorice allsorts, apple pie, poached pear, and maple-walnut cream.  There’s plenty of oak but substantially more fruit, leaving layers of lovely memories in the finish.  Drink now to 2018.  Rating:  91 Points (Konrad Ejbich). – Grapevine Magazine, Summer 2012 (pg. 52)
